Why should Americans, 65 years after World War II, be defending rich Europeans from a Soviet Union that has been dead for 20 years, so those same Europeans can cut their defense budgets to protect their social safety nets?
President Eisenhower told JFK to bring the troops home from Europe, or the Europeans would wind up as permanent wards.

I strongly disagree with his 19th Century view of government but Pat Buchanan has been proven right about a number of things. Long before Ross Perot, Buchanan was warning about the dangers of free trade. Buchanan predicted the Iraq-Afghanistan quagmire and America's decline as a world power. He has a vast knowledge of politics and history. While I don't endorse all of what he says, Buchanan is always worth listening to.
